The Central Valley's effort to raise awareness and educate residents about the importance of buying from local businesses was recently honored by the Fresno Advertising Federation. The "Buy Local" campaign was awarded Advertising and Marketing Company/Campaign of the Year.

The "Buy Local" campaign was spearheaded by Steve Geil, President/CEO of the Economic Development Corporation serving Fresno County (EDC), and Bruce Batti, President of Jeffrey Scott Agency (JSA) and Chair Elect of the Greater Fresno Area Chamber of Commerce.

"Buy Local" was created in the wake of the economic downturn of the housing, financial and auto industries. In 2008, Geil believed the downturn would soon hit the retail industry so he rallied a team of partners to help the retail industry face the recession head on with a public outreach campaign.

JSA lead the strategic messaging and creative design. Within 90 days, print, outdoor, TV, radio, web and point-of-sale posters were created. All touted the same simple message: When you buy local, you create jobs, sales tax revenue and help financially support services vital to the communitites in which we live. Local media outlets also got involved, donating the air time and print space to get the message out to Valley residents.
